Selected Works SummaryHowling Against the Wind
It’s on a late Thursday evening that Lenore Hanson sits in her parked car waiting, near the palatial digs of Dr. Samuel Gleeson. She’s been stalking him. Her Vitek Proplast II Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ)medical implant device failed. Lenore blames Dr. Gleeson for her ongoing medical woes. She’d asked him if the implant was biocompatible. Lenore thought that she'd made an informed treatment choice. Dr. Gleeson had looked her straight in the eye and lied. The implant hadn’t even been tested in animals. She wants him to eat his prevaricate words. Feeling demeaned by the Austin, Texas medical community’s code of silence, and "good old boys" mentality, Lenore considers murdering Dr. Gleeson. And Lenore’s not the only resident of Austin that wants him dead. There’s a line, which begins with his wife Paula, and ends with Dr. Landon, his surgical partner, who is tired of being a party to Dr. Gleeson’s surgical screw-ups. And all the while, Lee Hanson, Lenore’s husband, hasn’t a clue that she’s homicidal. Experiencing emotional difficulty in accepting his wife’s condition, Lee has slid into a deep depression while he tries to keep his family together. Lenore is a wife and mother living on the emotional edge. She struggles daily with pain and the drawbacks of taking heavy opiad medications. She often sits reflecting on her past and considering what kind of future she will have. How can I murder Dr. Gleeson? She ponders. Could I get away with it? Howling Against the Wind examines the medical implant device controversy and how dreadful the consequences can be when money-hungry surgeons take advantage of patients merely seeking optimal medical care, acquired through making informed treatment choices. "The Ethnic Detective II" Magazine Article Entitled: "The Treacherous Heart" by Arlene Gause-Jackson The magazine article shares with the authors' loyal readers her reasoning for writting "Howling Against the Wind." It is estimated that over ten million Americans suffer from Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ)Disorders. The TMJ is scientifically recognized as the most complicated joint in the human body, yet is is the least understood skeletal joint by medical professionals. It is the authors wish that no one else is harmed by TMJ Medical Implant Devices, and that our elected officials begin to empathize with the tragedy the Vitek Proplast II TMJ medical Implant Device has caused patients, and their families. When a person empathizes with someone, it means that they are compelled to act positively on behalf of the person(s) harmed or injured. Canada has set up a fund to compensate patients injured by the Vitek Proplast II TMJ implant, as the American Government allowed the manufacturer to file bankruptcy, while leaving many patients with debilitating conditions, or worse dead. The Vitek Proplast II TMJ Implant Medical Device had the FDA's stamp of approval as safe when it maimed and murdered Americans. The author wants all Americans to know that the physical, and emotional pain she endures daily as a "failed implant" recipient, and the emotional pain plunged deep in the heart of her loved ones, could have happened to them. |
